‚For the love of Praxiteles’, 60/50 cm, oil on prepared canvas, sanguine, Christine Fröhlich 2020
I‘ve been spending a lot of time with the old Greeks lately, Hellenistic sculptures in particular, and I’m really impressed with the accuracy.
As per usual this led to a few ideas...
First I thought it might be difficult to combine two figures. Surprisingly the ‚Marathon youth’ proved to be a perfect match, so the painting process was basically smooth.
For the first time I’ve tried out the ‚Zorn-palette’ to reach realistic flesh tones.
Legend has it, it only consists of four colours: yellow ochre, vermilion, titanium white and ivory black. Since there is no black colour in my paint box, I replaced it with vandyck brown.
Having finished my first (nearly) Zorn-Palette project, I found the result quite convincing. Surely I‘m using it again next time.
