Third one

Finally got to finish the third piece of my current series yesterday.

Colours that clash can be difficult in a painting, but it is intended in this case.
‚Hermes holding the infant Dionysos’ is one of those rare sculptures that are really and truly assigned to Praxiteles‘ workshop. (That‘s special, for those sculptures are generally under discussion)
Since the statue seems to be an original, I wanted something striking in the painting.

I was going to work out the Hermes figure in oil colours in the first place. The charcoal sketch was made only to have the general shape on canvas. Having finished the drawing it hit me as right and I decided to leave it as it is.
